Trend & Structure Assessment
Two trends are stacked on top of each other, and they disagree. The macro trend is still bearish: DOT trades 54% below its 52-week high ($2.34), below the 200-day EMA ($1.2032) and just under the 200-day SMA ($1.1026), with weekly price below the 30-week EMA (1.2215). The intermediate trend, however, has genuinely turned. The Aug-18 cycle low at $0.7225 produced a sequence of higher lows (0.7225 → 0.8058 → 0.9136 → 1.0384), an upside volume break on Aug 21 (+10.8% on 25.4M DOT), and a 20/50-day EMA golden cross on Sep 3 — the first since September 2025. Weekly MACD histogram has expanded for six straight weeks and weekly RSI has climbed 26.7 → 45.4. On the daily, price sits above the 20/50/100 EMA: the uptrend is intact.
What broke is short-term structure. The Sep 6→8 impulse (0.9136 → 1.2825, +40.4% in two sessions on 44M and 41M DOT, 4H RSI 84.3) topped and has spent three sessions retracing: 1.0918 → 1.0712 → 1.0384, with today's rally to 1.1609 failing — a lower high against a sequence of lower lows. Price has now lost every fib of the impulse down to 0.618 at 1.0545 and is trading ~0.7% under it. That is not a random number: $1.00 is the 50% retrace of the entire Aug-18→Sep-8 advance, $0.9925 the 0.786 of the impulse, $0.9781 the Sep-7 breakout open, and the rising trendline drawn through the Aug-30 and Sep-6 lows projects to ~$0.99 today. Four independent supports stack into a $0.96–1.00 confluence shelf — the true line in the sand.
Multi-timeframe is therefore divergent rather than aligned: daily trend bullish, daily momentum decelerating, 4H RSI 43.1 and 1H RSI 36.1 already in bearish territory below their 20/50 EMAs. The intraday frameworks have flipped negative first; the daily has not yet. Note also that DOT's entire September bid is idiosyncratic — BTC fell 3.2% over the same 7 days in which DOT gained 16.5%, so this was asset-specific money, not beta. The nearest overhead supply is $1.057 (book wall), then $1.098 (0.5 fib), then the $1.13–1.16 two-day high zone and the 200-day SMA cluster.
Momentum & Volume Analysis
Momentum is fading, not broken. Daily RSI has fallen 84.0 → 67.4 → 64.5 → 59.5, landing back in neutral-bullish territory rather than oversold — the reset after a blow-off, exactly what a stretched reading had to give back. The MACD histogram has now contracted three sessions running (+0.0321 → +0.0209) but the MACD line remains firmly above both its signal and the zero line, and the weekly MACD is still accelerating. That combination — declining histogram above a rising signal line, RSI holding above 50 — historically marks a pullback phase inside an uptrend rather than a trend reversal, provided price doesn't lose the 20-day EMA.
Volume is the more ambiguous leg of the trade. The Sep 9 bar (−9.95% on 28.6M DOT) is a textbook climactic-reversal candle, and today is running 1.69× the 20-day average with five hours still on the clock — heavy tape on a third consecutive red close reads as distribution out of the spike. But it is not panic: down-day volume across September (25.6M avg) is only modestly below up-day volume (29.7M), and the OI path is the decisive tell. Open interest peaked at 25.29M DOT at 20:00 UTC on Sep 8 — the exact top — and has bled 11.8% to 22.26M while price fell 18%. That is long liquidation and unwind, not fresh short accumulation, confirmed by funding collapsing from the +0.010% baseline to a −0.017% print before normalising. The leverage that fuelled the spike has already been flushed, which removes much of the fuel for a cascade. The offsetting negative is positioning and liquidity: retail accounts are more bullish into the dip (74.1% buy today vs 68.0% at the Sep 9 low), so the long cohort hasn't capitulated, and the near book is thin and balanced — only ~2.1M DOT of bids within 5% against ~2.3M of asks, largest bid wall at 1.036, ask wall at 1.057. Thin weekend book plus uncashed longs means the path of least immediate res
